This gyroscope appears to have first been produced in 1911 although 1917 is often quoted. Originally it was made by as a Hurst manufacturing and later made by Chandler manufacturing, under the name of 'Chandler gyroscope'. In the first half of the 20th century they were widely found in the 'five and dime' stores across America. They also appear under other brand names as occasionally when resold in various shops or promotions. In 1982 the product was purchased by Tedco. The look has remained unchanged and has been a classic educational toy for generations. It continues to fascinate young and old alike with its mysterious force that seems to defy gravity. Whether you just want to have hours of fun with it just as a toy or whether you want to learn more about physics/science of gyroscopes.
